In 2003, Justine Henin won her first Grand Slam tournament, the French Open, defeating her compatriot Kim Clijsters in the final 6-0, 6-4. She reached the final after defeating top ranked Serena Williams in three sets, recovering from a 2-4 deficit in the third set.
Justine takes her tennis into bigger hunting grounds and guns for the American champions. It starts at the Australian Open in Melbourne with a 3 hour marathon in the 4th round with Lindsay Davenport. Drama, heat and cramps, but Justine wins 7-5 5-7 9-7. More titles will follow in Charleston and Berlin. But it’s the semi-final with Serena Williams at Roland Garros that will rock the tennis world. Justine finally defeats Kim Clijsters world #1 on the biggest stage and match between them in their young careers. Justine win Roland Garros. Back to the USA and again Justine challenges and takes down an American champion. This time it’s Jennifer Capriati. Henin meets Clijisters in another finale, and it’s Justine that is victories. Justine is officially crowned World #1 in Zurich.
