2000 - Justine meets the Number 1 Player
She makes the main draw by qualification at Hobart, Australia and gets to the quarterfinals. Justine is defeated in her first career meeting with American Chanda Rubin at the quarterfinals. Things are moving upward very quickly for Justine as she enters the Australian Open, and meets the #1 player Martina Hingis in round 2. Justine loses to Hingis 6-3 6-3. A lull of tournament action for young Justine as she hold injuries only to return on grass season. Jousting Justine builds her reputation as she takes on Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in round 1 at Wimbledon and takes her to three sets 1-6 6-1 1-6. It’s at the US Open later that year in which Justine is truly introduced to the international tennis fans on a center court match against Anna Kournikova. Rookie Justine defeats the then glam queen of tennis 6-4 7-6, and is defeated by Lindsay Davenport in two sets at the quarterfinals.
